Want to turn your room into a work of art? Mosaics–intricate or simple, elegant or bold–will add character and charm to any space in your home. Whether you’re tiling a shower wall or a kitchen backsplash, we’ve rounded up some of our favorite mosaics in bathrooms, kitchens and bars to give you some inspiration for your next project.

Bathrooms

Want a bathroom that makes a statement? A bathroom that rejuvenates you like a resort spa, one your friends and family can’t help but compliment? A mosaic, whether it covers all four walls or just a shower niche, is sure to impress. Here are some of our favorite show-stopping mosaic tile bathroom design ideas that are sure to spark inspiration for your next addition or remodel.

Costa Emerald

This mosaic is nature enhanced! The brilliant jewel tones add a touch of glamour to the simple leaf-shaped tile. This tile creates a bold aesthetic when applied to walls and floors, but if you find that a bit overwhelming, try using it for a backsplash, accent wall or shower niche. For lighter, more blueish tones, try Costa Aegean.

Northbrook Glass

Carrara marble with glass accents gives the Northbrook Glass mosaic its ornate appeal. This beautiful waterjet mosaic has an updated Victorian aesthetic. We love how it adds an antique element to this modern bathroom.

Firenze Carrara and Black Marquina

One of the great things about mosaics is their versatility. If you like two colorways, you can mix them to create your own pattern like Beginning in the Middle did here with Firenze Carrara and Black Marquina hexagon mosaic. This polka dot pattern is unexpected and chic.

Grey Pebble

Looking for mosaic tile shower design ideas? The Grey Pebble mosaic creates a relaxing, spa-like experience. The raised pebbles will massage your feet and give you extra traction. The neutral colors create a soothing, calming environment.

Laura Ashley Leaf Cloud Blue

Sometimes when it comes to a mosaic, less is more. If you’re afraid a bold-patterned mosaic will overwhelm your bathroom, you can create a beautiful, unexpected moment with a shower niche. The Laura Ashley Leaf mosaic adds a stunning pop of color and whimsy to this white-tiled shower wall.

Kitchen

Mosaics make for marvelous kitchen backsplashes, accent walls and floors. Add a pop of color, a beautiful black-and-white pattern, or a stunning and luxurious marble mosaic. For more kitchen inspiration, check out these kitchen backsplash ideas.

Bardot Grey

The grey marble and curved chevrons of the Bardot Grey are the epitome of elegance. The subtle movement of the shapes will instantly elevate any space, whether it’s a kitchen backsplash, shower wall or bathroom vanity.

Hex Matte White with Black Flower

One thing we love about hexagons is their versatility. Add a touch of whimsy to your room with the Hex Matte White with Black Flower pattern, or create your own–we have a wealth of hexagon tiles in a variety of materials and colors.

Victoria Grey Braxtyn

A mosaic can add dimension to your space. The multi-colored marbles used for the Victoria Grey Braxtyn make this tile appear as if it’s popping up from the wall. We love how this simple grey and white mosaic pairs with the stainless steel and white elements in this kitchen, but it could also look stunning next to a bold, dark color.

Sampson Mosaic

The Sampson Mosaic with its geometric basketweave pattern creates a stunning moment on this kitchen wall. The tumbled marble gives this kitchen an earthy but elegant feel, perfect for an elevated country kitchen design.

Bar

These mosaic masterpieces are bar goals! From chic Art Deco arches to fun plays on the classic mirrored bar wall, pull up a stool and raise a glass to these chic and inviting designs.

Lalique

Art Deco designs are having a moment, and we couldn’t be happier! The Lalique marble mosaic embodies the ornate, geometric design made popular in the flapper era. This tile is especially stunning in the arched space above this bar but can be used anywhere you want to add vintage glamour.

Kelli Fontana, lead designer and creative director of West Bay Homes, created a delightful oasis in this Naples, FL home, dubbed the Sun Coast Estate. The captivating opulence of this 13,000-sq.-ft. estate incorporates the coastal essence of The Sunshine State while still maintaining the comfort of home.

We invite you to take a tour through this charming and stately home brimming with inspiring design choices that showcase some of our favorite tile.

Mudroom

Comfort and elegance combine to create this charming mudroom. Contemporary, yet timeless the Laura Ashley Wicker Dove Grey tile provides balance to the bold reddish-brown walls and intricately patterned window coverings.

Powder Room

A wealth of beautiful textures and patterns meld to create intrigue and allure in this bold, yet pleasing powder room. The sculptural Harmony Silverleaf tile adds visual interest to the ceiling and complements the hanging crystals. While the soft white Meram Blanc Carra tile center the lower-half of the room in sleek comfort that contrasts the large floral wallpaper.

The elegant and classic Meram Blanc Carrara polished tile, rustic mirror, light-wood cabinetry and organic accents combine complex textures for a look that is both captivating and inviting.

Living Area

For the indoor/outdoor living area, Kelli takes a more minimalist approach. The bright white walls and Siberian Pearl Brushed marble floors create an airy open space filled with natural light. A simple color palette keeps focus on the seating area, where family and friends can gather.

Kitchen

The kitchen is the heart of any home, and a place to find nourishment and build memories. The white counters and cabinetry work with the Retro Lino backsplash to make the space feel clean and vivid. The glass doors display the dishware for a lived-in feel.

The clear coat glaze on the Retro Lino subway tile reflects the light, providing extra illumination to the cooking area. Check out our post on Kitchen Backsplash Ideas for more inspiration.

Primary Bathroom

Soak in the lush neutral tones that create an opulent space, at once soft and bright. The brown veining in the Tresana Blanco Matte porcelain tile bring out the room’s color palette with subtle appeal that doesn’t detract from the bathroom’s clean luxuriousness. Browse our wide-assortment of bathroom tile for the perfect look for your next home project.

Boys’ Bathroom

This blue-plaid room invokes a classic boyhood feel. Straight lines and a monochromatic color scheme maintain a sense of order while still being youthful. The white grout line crossing through the Splendours Blue Night shower tile is an inverse to the white and blue wallpaper (find more shower tile on our website). While the more uniform Glass Nautical Blue backsplash creates a block of color that is strong without detracting from the rest of the room.

The subtle sheen of the Ionic White floor tile provides a sturdy, unassuming base to the patterns that play throughout the room.

Guest Bathroom

What guest wouldn’t feel at home stepping into this gorgeous shower? The Bulevar White ceramic tile has a subtle wavy texture that soothes the senses. The clean white tile also provides a gentle buffer between the bold patterned wallpaper and the marvelous McQueen Grey stone mosaic tile accent.

Guest Bathroom

The Legno limestone tile mimics the look of woodgrain to create an organic texture that is also durable. A warm grey palette and linear veining complement the textured accents in the cabinets and wall sconces. Read our post for even more luxurious bathroom design ideas.

Bar

The focal point of the home is this stunning bar. At once contemporary and reminiscent of retro glamor, the Antique Mirror Bevel tile and gorgeous gold and glass hanging lights are captivating without being obtrusive, making this the perfect place to enjoy a cocktail with friends.

The Antique Mirror Bevel tile reflects the fireplace and billiards room beyond, creating depth while still maintaining the intimacy of the space.

Laundry Room

Laundry is less of a chore in this beautifully designed room with its fresh, clean aesthetic. The soft blue and white color palette lend a calmness to this space. The solid, simple coloring of the walls and cabinetry bring a balance that allow for more interest in the floor tile, Decora Ornament Blue, which brings a sophisticated charm to the room.

Pool Bathroom

The Art Nouveau-inspired design on the Decora Redondo cement-look wall tile lend a classic elegance to this pool bathroom. The grey shapes perfectly balance the blue coral and candle used to accent the sink area, giving the room a subtle aquatic feel.

If you’re anything like us, you’ve been continuously inspired by the timeless interiors created by Julia Marcum, the design mind behind the popular blog, Chris Loves Julia. Ever since partnering with the husband-and-wife duo in 2012 on their very first kitchen remodel, we’ve had the chance to work with them on a variety of projects, including their moody Modern Cottage primary bathroom and a guest bath donning marble from top to bottom in their new Modern Colonial home.

This time, we’ve asked Julia to create four tile-focused mood boards, making it easier than ever to achieve her elevated traditional-meets-modern aesthetic in your own homes.

Julia’s Kitchen Mood Board

For this fantasy kitchen, I was very inspired by our current kitchen, but I wanted to give it more of a mid-century modern twist. – Julia

Julia’s choice of the Elisir Royal Fume Chevron wood-look flooring offers a light and elegant base for the moody olive green paint and Petal Emerald Mosaic to bring stunning drama to the space. “How cool would this mosaic tile be as a backsplash?” Julia wrote. “A backsplash is a statement-maker.” If you’re looking for more kitchen tile inspo, explore our 13 Beautiful Kitchen Backsplash Ideas.

Julia’s Bathroom Mood Board

This is a very elevated take on a ‘coastal’-inspired bathroom. This is the perfect example of letting the tile set the tone and personality of the space and then making selections that support it. – Julia

“The tile that inspired it all!” Julia wrote about our Zara Blue. “As someone who loves designing with color, this blue tile would make such a statement.” We love a bold tile pattern, and Julia did not disappoint with her choice of this attention-grabbing floral tile. Coordinating it with the neutral Imperial Gris Subway offers an effortless balance of visual interest and calming softness.

Julia’s Dressing Room Mood Board

Everything about this dressing room is feminine and delicate, starting with that jaw-dropping tile. – Julia

Featuring: Lafaenza Oro Crema.

Julia’s dressing room pick, the Lafaenza Oro Crema, offers the best of both worlds – the luxe appearance of natural stone along with the durability of porcelain. We adore the warm, soft accents and furniture pieces she paired with the tile to pull out its shading. “When I saw this tile, my heart stopped. I might have to sneak it into our bathroom/closet remodel next year. It has the most feminine, pink undertones,” Julia wrote.

Julia’s Mudroom Mood Board

This utilitarian space is earthy and neutral, but far from ordinary. The textured tile would make a mudroom feel historic and full of character. – Julia

Featuring: Jerica Ceniza.

Pulling from one of our favorite collections, Julia chose the brick-look Jerica Ceniza for this charming, rustic mudroom. “Subway tile, but make it textured!” Julia wrote. “This almost looks like a herringbone brick, but it’s porcelain. Would bring so much character to a mudroom.

4. Malcom Simmons’ Lavish & Elegant Bathroom

Designer Malcolm Simmons embraced timeless style and luxury during the bathroom reno in his colonial-style condo. Walls tiled with the light-reflecting Imperial Bianco Gloss subway help the room feel brighter and more open, while the elegant Hampton Carrara Niles marble flooring adds an especially lavish touch. Malcolm’s use of multiple trim pieces, including the Noir Honed Hixton, Hampton Carrara Cardine, Imperial Bianco Gloss Square Pencil and Hampton Carrara Polished Skirting, ties the space together beautifully with a custom, polished look.

5. Rashida Banks’ Quaint & Cozy Kitchen

Designer Rashida Banks took her early 2000s-style kitchen and transformed it into a cozy, inviting space saturated in warmth and embodying her “modern classic” style. Rashida chose the elegant Royal Satin White marble for her backsplash and extended it floor-to-ceiling on the adjoining wall. The tile’s soft creamy tones and grey veining pair perfectly with the warm cabinetry and gold accents sprinkled throughout the kitchen. Going with a more dramatic look on the floor, Rashida used the matte Aqua Nero stone-look porcelain tile for eye-catching contrast with a contemporary edge.

6. Haneen’s Haven’s Charming Traditional Bathroom

DIYer Haneen Matt of Haneen’s Haven gave new life to her dated primary bathroom with a delightful blend of rustic and traditional style. Her use of our wood-look Truewood Beige porcelain tile on the floor creates an effortlessly warm and cozy feel, while the elegant marble shower featuring the Bianco Puro honed subway tile and Hampton Hermosa mosaic elevates the overall design with an opulent look and feel. A hidden highlight? The whimsical wallpaper-look Saltus tile showcased in the shower niches!

7. Our Fifth House’s Luxe Porch Hangout

A participant in the Fall 2021 One Room Challenge, Our Fifth House‘s Carmel Phillips wanted to give her home’s blank-slate porch a stylish patio vibe perfect for lounging and reading. Using our Swan White Hex and Stream Black Hex tiles, she designed a custom patterned floor that feels fun and fresh, yet classic. Carmel’s creativity didn’t stop there, though – she also created a one-of-a-kind outdoor coffee table tiled with our Track Stack Navy. The mosaic’s small kit-kat shape offers incredible contrast against the hex flooring, while the deep blue hue adds a subtle element of color to the stylish porch.

8. Yellow Brick Home’s Vintage Chic Bathroom

Husband and wife design duo, Scott and Kim Vargo of Yellow Brick Home, took on the challenge of giving their 130-year-old Chicago flat a much-needed bathroom refresh while keeping its vintage charm intact. Wanting to keep the bathroom’s original pastel pink bathtub and sink as the stars of the space, they opted for a simple black-and-white color palette. The Imperial Bianco Gloss subway tile provides a crisp white backdrop, while the Black Marquina Marble Somerset and Black Marquina Marble Skirting add a hint of contrast. The Hampton Niles marble flooring features a sophisticated basketweave pattern that offers the perfect amount of visual interest without stealing the show.

9. Dressing Rooms Interiors’ Glam Black & White Kitchen

Ariene Bethea of Dressing Rooms Interiors Studio created a kitchen that perfectly embodies her signature “soulful maximalism” style during the Spring 2021 One Room Challenge. Her choice of the crisp Herringbone Gloss White mosaic for the backsplash pairs beautifully with deep black cabinetry for intense, eye-catching contrast. Finished with bold pops of color and luxe gold accents throughout, this space takes glam to the next level.

10. Jeweled Interiors’ Maximalist Living Room

To turn her client’s uninspired living room into an elegantly eclectic dream space, interior designer Jewel Marlowe of Jeweled Interiors embraced a bold mix of colors, patterns, and eras. Along with bright blue patterned wallpaper and funky statement-making furniture, one of the living room’s most notable upgrades was the sleek black fireplace. Jewel knew she wanted to update the original stone-stacked fireplace with something more modern and chic. Using our large-format Noir Honed Travertine to achieve the look of a dramatic and luxurious marble slab at a lower cost, the new fireplace makes for a grand focal point that grounds the color-forward space.

11. Pinch Plate Party’s Moody Artisanal Kitchen

Featuring a beautiful artisanal backsplash made of our handmade-look Riad White tile, Pinch Plate Party‘s Lauren Comer created the moody kitchen of her dreams. Wavy, uneven ripples of surface texture and varying shades of rich, creamy white give the Riad tile a crafted-by-hand appearance that instantly makes any surface appear softer. Complete with rich olive green cabinetry, warm brown tones from the Madera Miel Luxury Vinyl SPC flooring and whimsical floral wallpaper, this kitchen is a relaxing haven.

12. Hunted Interior’s Refined Guest Bathroom

Hunted Interior‘s Kristin Jackson transformed her bland guest bathroom into a timeless and refined space during the Spring 2020 One Room Challenge. On the walls, Kristin incorporated the Glass Rosewater subway tile for its inviting greige hue that ties in beautifully with the soft veins of silvery grey and linen beige in the Royal White Polished Marble Hexagon Mosaic flooring. Styled with a few of Kristin’s favorite antique home decor pieces, this bathroom is the definition of tasteful design.

The third and final One Room Challenge™ reveal post is here! It has been so much fun to watch these spaces transform and to have the opportunity to work with such amazing designers. Is anyone else getting a serious itch to renovate their entire house or is that just us? Without further ado… let’s get into the remaining five spaces from the Spring One Room Challenge™!

Renovation Husbands

Starting us off with a bang is Stephen and David of Renovation Husbands! They took on an ambitious project tackling their master bedroom, closet and bathroom spaces. Even more impressive is that they did everything themselves!

Their bathroom before

What was once a storage space became the master bathroom of their dreams! Their design style flows seamlessly throughout the spaces, making each feel unique yet cohesive all at the same time.

Our shower was to be large, built-in, elegant, and most importantly, intentional. Intentional is [sic] word that we use all of the time when approaching a design – every aspect should look like it was done on purpose.

– Stephen & David

Design by: Renovation Husbands.

And intentional it is! Every detail was perfectly executed. Inspired by Sarah of Room for Tuesday, they continued each aspect of the room throughout the shower. Any chair rail, baseboard or crown piece was continued into the shower to create a space space that felt cohesive all the way down to the tile and wood trim pieces.

Stephen and David visited our showroom in Watertown, MA. They were assisted by Leoni, the store’s Assistant Manager: “We had ambitious plans and needed help from someone who was up for the challenge. Thankfully we were paired with Leoni. Leoni knows tile, and she knows what The Tile Shop has to offer. She took all of our questions seriously and provided us with amazing information on the process.”

From the moment they took on this project, Stephen and David knew that marble was the tile they wanted in their shower. They searched for the perfect marble that didn’t have too much yellow, consistent grays and was honed. They ultimately decided on our Firenze Carrara marble which offers beautiful variation making it a highly sought after stone.

They used our Wedi Shower System to easily create their custom shower. Made out of high density foam, the system allows you to easily waterproof your shower and prepare it for tiling!

Its foam is super lightweight and can be cut so much easier than cement board. The entire thing is absolutely brilliant. We will definitely be using the Wedi System again. – Stephen & David

Without a doubt, they achieved the intentional space they set out to create while also creating something pretty beautiful, too! Check out their entire master suite here.

Coco & Jack

Next up is Steve and Alyssa Terpstra, the husband and wife team that is Coco & Jack. Ever since they moved into this house over three years ago, their master bedroom and ensuite has been on their to-do list, but there always seemed to be a room that took higher priority. This ORC seemed like the perfect time to finally cross it off their list.

Steve & Alyssa’s bedroom before

Before, their bedroom and ensuite were functional but lacked their personality.

I’ve been thinking about how to redo our space for quite a while, and I really wanted it to feel collected and layered, with an over all neutral colour palette that still has a lot of depth to it. – Steve & Alyssa

Design by: Coco & Jack.

Even though their ensuite is a small space, they were able to add a lot of different elements and textures throughout the space. They chose to use a mix of finishes that were both rustic and polished to create interest.

Featured: Claros Silver Travertine. Design by: Coco & Jack.

They chose finishes for the shower that would make the space feel open and bright since it is relatively small. For their floor tile, they chose our Claros Silver Travertine for its unfinished and rustic qualities. It contrasts the polished finishes that Steve and Alyssa chose for the rest of the space adding a more casual feel.

Featured: Splendours White Subway and Hampton Carrara Marble Shower Curb. Design by: Coco & Jack.

They chose to lay the Splendours White Subway tile in a vertical straight stack to make the shower feel taller. Our Splendours tile has gorgeous variation in color and an almost handmade look to it, which adds depth and texture.

Featured: Claros Silver Travertine, Splendours White Subway, and Hampton Carrara Marble Shower Curb. Design by: Coco & Jack.

It’s all in the details! They added a Hampton Carrara Marble Curb and shelf. It continues the neutral tones grounded throughout the space and gives the shower added functionality and a finished look. Arguably the star of the show, Steve built the aged brass frame for the shower door, which has us all wondering if Steve would build us one!

Featured: Splendours White Subway, Hampton Herringbone Marble Mosaic, Hampton Carrara Marble Shower Curb and Claros Silver Travertine. Design by: Coco & Jack.

The Hampton Herringbone Marble mosaic tile adds a subtle pattern and continues the neutral tones from the rest of the space. If they thought their space was functional, it now is not only functional but even more so it is beautiful! Read about their entire One Room Challenge here.

Home Made by Carmona

From start to finish, Ursula Carmona executed each and every part of her bathroom and closet transformation making it a true DIY project. While challenging at times, the spaces that Ursula created are timeless and finally fulfill the plans she has had for the space since she moved in!

Ursula’s bathroom before

While the overall bones of the space stayed the same, you would never believe that these were once the same room!

I wanted to elevate the design in this room to be classy and sophisticated. Just because it’s not the biggest master bathroom doesn’t mean it can’t be loaded with modern luxury. – Ursula

Featured: Firenze Calacatta Honed Marble. Design by: Home Made by Carmona.

To add a luxe look to this bathroom, I went with a honed Marble floor tile from The Tile Shop, in a herringbone pattern in the center, and a border around the edges. – Ursula

Featured: Firenze Calacatta Honed Marble. Design by: Home Made by Carmona.

After some debate, Ursula decided to lay the floor tile in a herringbone pattern rather than playing it safe with a traditional staggered pattern. We are so happy she decided to go for it! The herringbone pattern complements the luxurious design that Ursula set out to achieve.

Featured: Firenze Calacatta Honed Marble. Design by: Home Made by Carmona.

Elements from her closet continue across the hallway and into the bathroom. We are so in love with the wallpaper Ursula used in her closet. It adds the perfect amount of statement while still feeling classic.

There is no question that Ursula created a glam, luxurious bathroom and closet that is centered with classic features. Get all the details on the full spaces on her blog.

Beginning in the Middle

What originally seemed like a relatively straightforward project for Catherine and Bryan of Beginning in the Middle, quickly turned into much more, but are we so obsessed with the end result! For this season of the One Room Challenge, they chose to transform the attic master suite of their parents’ new, old cape cottage. When we say we’re ready to move in, we mean it!

The attic space before

I want this space to feel cozy, quaint, and classic with modern accents.  I’m leaning into the modern English cottage aesthetic here.  Think creamy neutrals, florals, modern lighting, and some planked walls/ceilings. – Catherine & Bryan

Design by: Beginning in the Middle.

Initially, their plan was to add a bathroom without adding a dormer, but a few weeks in they began to reconsider. Adding the dormer would increase the bathroom space about 50 square feet of space. After a lot of consideration on whether it was worth it paired with the cost and timeline aspects of the challenge, Catherine and Bryan went for it! Now looking back, it made a huge difference.

Featured: Firenze Carrara Honed Marble. Design by: Beginning in the Middle.

They chose to use our Firenze Carrara Honed Marble which brings a classic and traditional feel to the bathroom. The grey veining contrasts beautifully off the white walls balancing the entire design.

Featured: Firenze Carrara Honed Marble. Design by: Beginning in the Middle.

The floor will primarily be the Firenze Hex tile, and we’ll use the Black Marquina Hex pieces to create the pattern. […] Having just a bit of black mixed with veiny white marble is going to add a really nice splash of contrast to the bathroom. – Catherine & Bryan

Featured: Firenze Carrara Honed Marble, Firenze Carrara Marble Hex, Black Marquina Marble Hex and Bianco Carrara Marble Threshold. Design by: Beginning in the Middle.

With some last minute changes due to COVID-19 and construction delays, there are a few finishing details left to complete the space. Read all about Catherine and Bryan’s 8-week transformation on Beginning in the Middle.

House of Hipsters

Her first time being a Featured Designer, Kyla, the brain behind House of Hipsters chose to take on her home office and gym. Her office seemed to be a place where furniture gets its chance but never seems to get a permanent spot. Let’s see what Kyla was working with!

Kyla’s office space during photoshoots before

It just wasn’t right…again. Being that I spend most of my time in this space, I want it to feel more welcoming and cozy…not cluttered and chaotic. […] More often than not it’s a dumping ground for sourced merchandise waiting to be cleaned, processed, and styled in the shop. – Kyla

Featured: Tresana Blanco Porcelain. Design by: House of Hipsters.

A gorgeous space with plenty of natural light, Kyla’s office had great potential. Some fresh floors, new furniture and unique art makes this space truly one of a kind.

Featured: Tresana Blanco Porcelain. Design by: House of Hipsters.

It was a last minute idea to add this arch connecting these two spaces and it turns out to be one of Kyla’s favorite details from the space. The Tresana Blanco large-format faux marble tile flows seamlessly in both rooms. It gives the space a glamorous feel without the added care of real marble.

Featured: Tresana Blanco Porcelain. Design by: House of Hipsters.

After some thought, Kyla chose to install the Pixel 2 Black Ceramic tile without grout to achieve a cleaner look. We love the contrast between the Pixel 2 Black and the Tresana Blanco floor tile. If only every at-home gym looked this glam!

Here’s a closer look at the black tile. You can see it has a subtle metallic dot pattern that gives the wall some added texture and edginess. – Kyla
